There is plenty to see in and around the Cathedral and to help you get the most from your visit there are volunteer welcomers and guides who are often available during the day to answer any queries you may have and to give personal guided tours of the Cathedral.
If you are making a special journey, it is recommended that you telephone the Cathedral Office in advance to check that there are no special services that might curtail your visit.
Opposite the Cathedral we have an excellent Visitor Centre, which features a multimedia exhibition, gift and book shop and award-winning cafe-restaurant. This is the only restaurant in the world that has a mediaeval bridge in the middle of it: the famous Hanging Bridge, which has been incorporated into the building.
Occasionally the Cathedral hosts day conferences with large attendances. Visitors are welcome but need to be aware of the limitations regarding photography and areas that cannot be accessed. On these occasions we ask that large groups of visitors be limited to certain sections of the Cathedral because of the conference because of the distraction and potential noise factor for conference speakers and attendees. Groups visits are possible during the breaks and outside conference meeting times. Please read the web site for more information on these events.
You are welcome to take photographs, providing that they are for your own personal use.
Group bookings:
If you are bringing a group to the Cathedral please telephone the Office in advance to ensure that your group can be accomodated. To arrange a guided tour for your group, please contact Michael Scott or Joanne Hooper via the Cathedral Office. School groups can book educational visits via the Education Department. Please note that all groups must be pre-booked into the Cathedral diary in order to avoid disappointment.
